Do we want an extra column that indicates the current depth, or is that too literally and to prescriptive? Maybe it could fade in and out, or only fade in as you approach a chapter transition

There are some tricks in Juncture Markdown that I'm working through that might make this work in a few different ways. One option is to move the zoom on a 'clinging' image (always visible) that is taggd to paragraphs. Another option is to use a combination of text and popovers providing information about the ocean (the wikidata entries on oceanography are really good) as you descend.

This issue is being addressed through the use of Tapestries now. Also the addition of fades to styling on Juncture.
