Kick-off discussion of Ideas for the example

Let's use this issue to start the discussion about ideas for what the core example might be.

BTW, I was thinking that we could start with the R workshop's dataset: https://github.com/CAMH-SCWG/compucool/blob/gh-pages/workshops/intro-R.md:

• Rtutorial_data1.csv: 5 variables: age, diagnosis (dx), ethnicity, sex, and subject identifier (subject_ID)
• Rtutorial_data2.csv: 4 variables: three cognitive scores (cog1, cog2, cog3), genotype, and subject identifier (subID)

We could add imaging data (struct + func) for each of these subjects, and sequences also.

Hey guys,

One issue to keep in mind is the constant problems that some workshop's topic as suited to different types/scales of data than others...

The obvious example for me is that linux operations are most useful for situations when there are mulitiple files wheras R does better with a handful of (potentially large) csvs... Python and matlab are good for image files... Python/linux are good for workflows...

Maybe I'm just overthinking the problem

Hey Jon,

I think from the discussion, the smallest possible example party unit would
be:

1. some csv to work from for R, SQL, spreadsheets, Access...
2. some kind of a mock directory tree surrounding them to teach some linux
   operations + data organization concepts

Based on what Jon has added, add the following to appropriate example party csvs on the basis of past SPSS, ACCESS, REDCap, and Spreadsheets workshops:

• CGI (1-7)
• Site (1-2)
• Date
• Smoke (0,1)
• first name
• last name
• REB number
• free form comments field
