Is it safe to switch the default branch from `master` to `main`?

I would like to switch the default branch for this project from `master` to `main`. My instinct says that this is a safe thing to do right now because all that is in here is a README, but I would like confirmation. I don't want to disrupt anyone's existing workflow!
