The user shown in a notification could be wrong sometimes.

Yesterday I received the notification of the post: https://wordpress.org/news/2018/05/the-month-in-wordpress-april-2018/. It was from Hugh, but in the notification it was Matt:

User was logged in as "A"
They received notification that "B" replied to your comment
The comment being replied to was from a different account: "C"
The link in the Notification brings us to: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/68286445/posts/1812113532

Not sure if anything changed or if this is old, but it's suspicious that the user account being reported is a low id number. We have ran into issues where we cannot tell the different between a Jetpack-site-local user and one on Wordpress.com

That is, suppose a site has ten users: if we take the user id reported it's likely to conflate itself with one of the first ten users on WordPress.com.

This is no proposed fix but just adding context to the issue…
