When you go to settings and select 16x16, it makes no change to the gamedata. The sprites and items remain 8x8.

that's from elkie's code, It's intended kinda, the way elkie made the origional sprite scaling is it applies only to new sprites, you can edit the number of lines in game data to set the resolution on it, we understand it's jank as heck we need to fix it when we update again
