Modification to not require root

Hello,
I have made (locally, for me) a modification: with dissassembling the Eversense App, I have added an ContentProvider, providing the glucose measurements.
Then I have modified ESEL to use this ContentProvider as BG input and passes it to xDrip. This works fine, for me. Advantage: no root required. Disadvantage: modified apk for Eversense required, which is still needed...
I have not uploaded anything. Is anyone interested in this?

This sounds like a good idea to me, but why use Esel as a middleman when you could just pass the data to xDrip? Also, not everyone wants or (in the case of the average non-technical user) knows how to root their device.

Couldn't we just extract the Eversense driver from the official app and integrate it into xDrip?

What about integrating it into AndroidAPS as well? If stable data are coming, even SMB work with this data source.

While you may reverse engineer the protocol, you should probably reimplement it yourself to
(1) not use code that does not belong you
(2) not inherit bad design which quite often runs in such software (e.g. bad error checking, because what user usually cares?)

I would definitely work on implementing a driver for xDrip+ and AndroidAPS once I get my hands on a device.

Well, by disassemble an apk, it is only possible to get smali code, which is far away from java and only very hard to modify. Therefore I'm very glad that I have managed it to get the data accessible, but I don't think that this would be the way to re implement a Bluetooth driver.
I am right now quite happy with my solution, which is working for me. And I guess by using ESEL, it doesn't really matter if your receiver is xDrip or APS, right?
@no92 Do you have experience in reverse engineering a Bluetooth protocol? Me personally not. May be I can give you something like log files/raw data and the result. Would this help you?
