Similar to the overlays allowed within the ::debug mode, it would be nice if a new command was added to show an overlay of where the mapsquare boundaries exist. I spent about 5 hours attempting to add this in a local build, but being unfamiliar with 2d drawing and managing player position, map position, and bit shifting, I was wholly unsuccessful. I was attempting to use the drawTileOverlay function to add a red border along the mapsquare boundaries similar to this:
