When you decide to update to 1.14.2, Fabric is the new and primary modloader being used. (I really wish there was just one consistent loader, but Rift has been dropped because of internal drama and license/code issues.) http://fabricmc.net/ for more info.

Luckily it's backed by Mixins, so porting shouldn't be difficult if Zombe supports Mixins. (I believe the 1.13.2 - rift branch should be compatible and easy to port.)
The other advantage is that Fabric should allow mods to work across multiple versions with little to no updating required. No more incremental headaches! 1.14.X
